SINA Health, Education and Welfare Trust is a privately funded not-for-profit organization, serving the community since 1998. We have a network of 30 clinic locations of which 3 are referral clinics and 3 are mobile clinic locations. These collectively cater to the needs of more than half a million individuals annually. We provide quality primary healthcare to the less privileged people in our society, of which majority are women and children. More than 80% of patients treated at the SINA clinics are Zakat eligible.
SINA’s Vision, Mission, Values
We deliver primary healthcare with affordability, accessibility and quality in underprivileged communities of Karachi.
Mission and Vision
To build an authentic, scalable and replicable quality primary healthcare model which is affordable and accessible to the under-privileged communities in the urban slums
Our roots go back to the year 1998, when Dr. Asif Imam returned to Pakistan after practicing medicine in the USA. He came with a vision to help the underprivileged, to deliver quality primary healthcare to those who did not have the awareness or the resources. Keeping his eyes on the noble mission he utilized his vast experience of 20 years and took the initiative of spreading well being to the poor and established SINA. Named after the great Ibn e Sina (Avicenna), SINA Health, Education & Welfare trust was formally registered as a trust under Pakistani law in 2007.
SINA’s greatest asset is its quality management system. This system is unique as it has adapted quality healthcare protocols used in developed healthcare systems for application in low-income settings. All doctors at SINA clinics are trained to use this protocol-based system and are evaluated by the medical team at the SINA-Head Office based on their performance every month.
This is the foundation on which we believe a scalable quality primary healthcare system can be created to cater to the needs of less privileged communities across Pakistan. Therefore, we aim to replicate this system of primary healthcare across Pakistan.
- Help save children from critical illnesses and death
- Help families, particularly women and children, look after their health
- Help relieve pressure on tertiary and secondary care hospitals
- Decrease disease burden from society
We focus on saving children from critical illnesses and death. We help the society by providing help and awareness to women so they can take better care of their families and themselves. This also helps us to relieve the pressure on tertiary and secondary care hospitals by reducing their patients and sharing their burden.
Developing a first port of call by establishing and operating primary healthcare clinics in urban slums.
The total cost per patient PKR 450+, but the fee charged by SINA is PKR 20, with free medication, diagnostic tests as well as follow up care.
Quality care at SINA is provided as per internationally recognized protocols.
We provide both curative and preventive care at all our clinics
Quality Care at nominal cost: The patients are examined by qualified and well trained physicians whose performance is rigorously monitored by our quality management system. The doctors follow a customized protocol with medical records maintained for each patient.
Diagnostic and Pharmacy Services: SINA’s in-house diagnostic service provides free and highly subsidized investigations including laboratory tests and ultrasounds. Samples are collected daily from our clinic collection points and are delivered to our centralized laboratory. The ultrasounds are performed by a qualified Sonologists at an exceptionally subsidized rate.
Referral System (for specialist care): For patients requiring specialized attention, SINA has developed a unique referral system whereby every patient who requires specialist opinion or secondary and tertiary care gets the opportunity to have access to qualified consultants in Karachi free of cost or at highly subsidized rates. This assures high-quality advanced medical care to deserving patients who, owing to lack of awareness and financial constraints, may otherwise not have been able to get access to such secondary and tertiary care services.
Preventive Healthcare Program: Our medical team focuses on Diabetes, Hepatitis and Hypertension while also focusing on chronic disease management to ensure that more serious complications are avoided. Regular health sessions are conducted through which awareness, along with diagnosis and treatment is provided to the patients.
Over the years, SINA has extended its network of clinics, touching new milestones and setting higher goals for the future. In 2013, approximately 100,000+ patients were treated at all SINA clinics collectively. This increased to approximately 300,000+ and 500,000+ in 2015 and 2016 respectively. By 2020, SINA aims to extend its network beyond Karachi to provide healthcare to an estimate of 1,000,000 patients annually.
Perhaps the greatest asset that has helped SINA achieve these numbers, is its Quality Management System. This system is unique, in-line with quality healthcare protocols utilized in developed healthcare systems, and is applicable in low-income settings. Simply put, this system is the foundation on which we believe a scalable quality primary healthcare system can be created to cater to the needs of underprivileged individuals across Pakistan.
